The Appian Way , called ” Queen viarum ” , is the most famous consular road that connected Rome to Brindisi . Built from 312 BC , at the behest of the censor Appio Claudio Blind , remains one of the best achievements of civil Roman . Today the old route has been redesigned from State Road 7 Via Appia .
Since its creation , all the territories that crossed drew benefit , since the uninterrupted passage of transport enabled the rapid flourishing of trade and development of populations . Age Trajan , then , Benevento became the crossroads of two streets , the ancient Appian Way and the new way of communication , built between 108 and 110 d . C. , commissioned by the Emperor Trajan .
