Near the castle , in the historic center of the city , it is preserved the house where in 1817 was born Francesco De Sanctis .The illustrious personage he studied in Naples attending school purist Basil Puoti , and very young , he opened his own school . Together with his students was on the barricades of the 1848 uprising , but arrested , remained in prison for three years , then in exile in Turin and Zurich , where he taught at the Polytechnic . He returned home after unification and until his death he devoted himself to political activity . It was deputy of the moderate left and was twice Minister of Education . From 1871 to 1877 he held the chair of Comparative Literature at the University Federico II of Naples .
